Mr. Usuzumi (薄墨さん）

Mr. Usuzumi is the name of cherry blossom tree in Gifu prefecture. It is one of the five major cherry blossom trees in Japan. Though the real name of the tree is Usuzumi-zakura (Usuzumi cherry blossom), the local people call it "Usuzumi-san (Mr. Usuzumi)". It is 1500 years old.

My home town is one and a half hours away from the Usuzumi-Zakura. Everytime I go back home, we visit the area and enjoy the tree and hot spring nearby . It is surrounded by mountains and enjoying hot spring really relieves my heart.

Considering that the tree is supported by the support of humans and thinking that people call a tree like a person, people loves the tree and treat him or she like an old friend.
Last time I went there was in early May, so I want to visit the tree in full bloom someday!

「薄墨さん」とは、岐阜県にある日本五大桜の一つです。正式には薄墨桜と言われていますが、地元は「薄墨さん」と呼んでいます。なんと樹齢1500余年だそう。

私の実家から車で1.5時間ほどありますが、毎回実家に帰るたびに薄墨さんと近くにある温泉を楽しみにいきます。木が人の手によって支えられていることや、人のように呼ばれているのを考えると、地元の人には旧友のように愛されているのだな、と何だかほっとしました。

前回は５月の上旬に行きましたが、次回は桜満開の時に見に行きたいものです。
でも、新緑の季節に山に行くのもとっても気持ちいいです。
岐阜の奇麗な空気を思い出して、明日もがんばります！
